There was a strong showing of Australian stock Horses at this years annual Gloucester Show. Competitors travelled from Wauchope in the north to the Central Coast in the south, but in the main it was  residents of the local Shire who gave good support across the Show program.

The major award in the led events, the Radium perpetual trophy for Supreme Led Stock Horse was taken out by the gelding Deowie Phoenix owned by Tahnee Sullivan and exhibited by Amy Bonsor from Wingham.
The ridden classes attracted plenty of competition with Silverthorn Sapphire owned by the Wardell family and shown by Shania Madden awarded Champion ASH Hack, and Jodie Harris riding Leeburn Midnight taking out the prestigious Champion Working Horse trophy.
In the ride off for Supreme Ridden ASH of the Show Silverthorn Sapphire and Shania Madden came out victorious.

A good field of 3 year old horses contested the inaugural Junior Snaffle Bit class , with the winner being Bullseye Siena owned by the Wardell family and shown by Shania Madden.

Junior riders competed in big fields of  Hack ,Working and Riding events which culminated with Jordyn Snape riding Taravale Playdough being awarded Champion Junior ASH Rider.

The Show program included a Time Trial and Cowless Campdraft which attracted plenty of interest and kept the program going until late in the afternoon.

The first ever  Open Cowless Campdraft run at Gloucester Showground was won by Jodie Harris with Leeburn Midnight . The winner of the Junior event was Anthony Shultz , and Jordyn Snape took out the major prize for the Juvenile section.

Wilson takes early lead in Futurity Challenge

Adam Wilson riding his 3 year old grey mare Stockyards Swift has jumped away to an early lead in the Stock Horse Futurity Challenge after Round 1 held at Gloucester Showground last Saturday.

Wilson set the pace in the snaffle bit cutting with a great run to earn a score of 90 points and followed up with a further 70 points in the “dry work” Utility Horse pattern to give him an aggregate total of 160 points.

Just behind Wilson sits Bruce Snape on 155 points with his 4 year old gelding TaraVale Playdough, and in 3rd position is Adam Wilson with his second entry Stockyards Taylor on 151 points.

It is notable that both of Adam Wilsons entries are grey mares from the same dam , Stockyards Missy – a Lindsay X Kywong Jessica mare.

Just behind the leaders is Ashley Whiting (145 points) , Britany Hetherington (138) , and Jamie Vlastuin (138).

In the Encouragement Section the leaders are bunched with Kimberley Snape (TaraVale Doitall) on 150 points just in front of Mitch Ball (Pinnacles Georgias Destiny) 149 and Lloyd Aquilina (GiveNTake) with 145. Other riders in early contention are Tina Robinson with 140 points and Melissa Williams on 134.

Thirteen Junior  and Juvenile riders were given very informative instruction from Cutting judge Bob Johnston from Tamworth , and on riding “dry work “ patterns by Greg Ainsworth of Waukivory.

The next round of the Challenge will be held on Sunday 29th June at Gloucester Showground with the events to be contested being snaffle bit cutting and a Working Horse pattern.
